SHADOW THEORY trailer

"Shadow Theory" (2011) was born reassembling archival materials; as it is impossible regardless of the value of historical and human context, it not only meant to be a criticism of the bomb and its devastating consequences, but even before a study of bright impressions.The video consists of some fragments of archive footage about the study of the effects of the bomb. A soldier points with detachedgestures the shadows left by objects and people overwhelmed by radiations. Trying to partially abstract the narrative to dramatic-looking of the event, "Shadow Theory" wants to emphasize once again the link between the images presented and the basic concept of the photographic language.

The project BLU, exhibited in February 2011 at Artopia (Milan) and in April at the gallery Kuhn & Partner in Berlin, is the new development of Martina’s research about traces and signs, improved by the residency program AIR-ONOMICHI experience in 2009, promoted by the University of Onomichi (Japan).

Metronom presenta Time Dust, una personale dell’artista Martina della Valle con un progetto inedito dedicato all’immagine del tempo e alla memoria delle cose esplorati attraverso un elemento immateriale, temporaneo e volatile come la polvere.
L’artista prende spunto dal rilievo di un archivio di famiglia costituito da materiali e oggetti per la lavorazione della ceramica. Il nonno materno era un ceramista e nel suo studio sono stati conservati disegni, calchi, spolveri, statuette e oggetti in ceramica di sua produzione, oggi ricoperti dalla polvere e trasformati dalla patina del tempo, che l’artista riutilizza e documenta fotograficamente al fine di attivare una seconda memoria.

Scavando negli anfratti della memoria, riemergono vecchie storie sepolte e dimenticate, figure sbiadite e oggetti smarriti che parlano di antiche presenze. 
I luoghi conservano in silenzio ricordi pronti a vibrare. Sotto un velo di polvere. È il tempo delle cose, che si muove parallelo al tempo umano, nascondendo o portando di nuovo alla luce antiche testimonianze. Martina della Valle usa la fotografia per squarciare la patina del tempo e donare una nuova vita agli oggetti che illumina con il suo obbiettivo. Come un archeologo alla ricerca di resti e rovine, l’artista si muove attraversando sincronicamente passato e presente e agisce nel tempo sospeso della fotografia. La prossima personale di Martina della Valle negli spazi di Metronom a Modena parla di tempo e polvere. (...)
