The project was born from the correspondence held at a distance for a few months with a group of women, of different ages and origins, who attend the Italian language school of the Presidio Caritas of Pachino.
At a time when social closure accentuates even more the isolation in which many women migrants usually find themselves already living, Correspondence focuses on meeting, sharing the story and participating in the creative process.
This exchange made up of words and images composes a fragmentary tale of the reality of migrants and their families. A subjective reflection on their current daily life, as they chose to represent it.
Glimpses of landscapes, objects, suggested presences and small gestures constitute a sort of intimate diary, an archive of excerpts of a reality that is still often invisible, even more so because from the point of view of women.
A selection of the images taken by the protagonists of the project with their mobile phone, were then reworked by the author, laser printed on transparent paper and used as black and white negatives to be enlarged, or to expose a series of large silk cyanotype-sheets to sunlight. Through the various passages of hands and technique, the individual fragments of history acquire new dignity and visibility.
